How Laser Skin Tightening Works

One of the universal side effects of aging, sun exposure and environmental damage is skin laxity. The collagen fibers stretch and loosen like a worn-out rubber band, and the skin becomes less elastic. And everyone knows what happens to stretched-out elastic, right? Saggy, baggy drooping.

Laser skin tightening uses infrared light to heat up the collagen matrix under the skin’s surface. This heat causes the skin to contract for a tighter look while simultaneously kick-starting natural collagen production for softer, smoother and healthier-looking skin. In addition to tightening sagginess and minimizing your wrinkles, laser skin tightening can help your complexion look more even overall, just like other laser rejuvenation treatments.*

What to Expect from Laser Skin Tightening

Laser skin tightening can be performed on the face, neck, tummy, arms, legs and bottom. It’s an outpatient, in-office procedure that doesn’t require anesthesia. We might slather you up with some numbing cream before your treatment, though.

To begin treatment, we place a laser handpiece over the area of lax skin. As we move the handpiece across the skin’s surface, it emits pulses of infrared light that penetrate down to the upper dermis. The collagen contracts and fresh collagen begins to grow. Because the laser protects the upper layers of skin, you won’t have to worry about pain or peeling. Instead, you’ll feel a heating sensation that alternates with regular blasts of cool air from the handpiece. Some patients feel a mild stinging sensation during treatment, similar to a rubber band being snapped against the skin.*

Recovering from Laser Skin Tightening

There’s no real recovery period needed after laser skin tightening. After treatment, you can get right back to work and your normal daily routine. (Or go ahead and pretend like you need the whole day off and then play hooky. We won’t tell.)
