beautiful woman looking thoughtfulDermal fillers are injectable products that minimize common signs of facial aging. Fillers temporarily soften wrinkles and folds, add volume to sunken cheeks, plump thin lips and improve the appearance of scars and other indentations. After treatment, the skin looks smoother and the facial features look fuller.*

Dr. Lynn Klein and our team at Aesthetic Dermatology offer several types of dermal filler products, including JUVÉDERM®, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC®, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® and Sculptra®.

How Dermal Fillers Work

As the face ages, it naturally experiences the loss of subcutaneous fat. Without an adequate fat layer, the facial muscles are closer to the skin surface and lines and wrinkles become more obvious. Also, age and gravity cause the skin to stretch, which can contribute to the loss of volume in the face. Dermal fillers are specifically formulated to address these age-related concerns.

Fillers work one of two ways, depending on the materials. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers like JUVÉDERM fill in the space between lines, wrinkles and creases. Sculptra, which is made of poly-l-lactic acid, triggers the body’s natural production of collagen for firmer, smoother skin.*

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC

JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC is a hyaluronic acid based filler approved by the FDA for boosting lip volume and smoothing the lines and wrinkles around the lips (smoker’s lines). VOLBELLA is designed to accentuate lips and the area around them to create a fuller and younger-looking appearance.*

The procedure can be completed in approximately 15 minutes and results can last up to 18 months, making it one of the longer-lasting lip enhancement products on the market today.*

During treatment, Dr. Klein injects small amounts of VOLBELLA beneath the surface of the skin. The amount of product and the amount injected will depend on the desired outcome and area(s) treated. Thanks to its hyaluronic acid base, VOLBELLA works quickly to fill in lines around the mouth and add volume to the lips. There is no downtime needed with VOLBELLA; you are free to go about your day right after treatment.*

Not sure if VOLBELLA is right for you? Ideal candidates for VOLBELLA are those who:

  • Are age 21 and older
  • Wish to enhance aged or naturally thin lips
  • Want to improve the appearance of lip lines
  • Want to smooth out vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines)

What to Expect from Your Injectable Filler Treatment

Fillers are administered during a quick outpatient procedure at Aesthetic Dermatology’s Bala Cynwyd office. Topical anesthetic may be used for a more comfortable experience.

Prior to beginning the injections, our board-certified dermatologist will evaluate your face and identify wrinkles, folds and depressions. These areas will be marked to guide the doctor during treatment.

The dermatologist injects small amounts of the filler beneath the surface of the skin into the pre-marked areas. This won’t be painful, but you might feel a slight pinprick sensation. The amount of product and the number of injections depend on the area being treated and the degree of correction needed.

Recovering from Injectable Fillers

Dermal filler treatment does not require a recovery period; you can return to most activities, including work, right after your appointment. We recommend that you avoid strenuous activity for a day or two, and refrain from rubbing or pressing on the treated area. Other than that, you may work and socialize as normal.*

Typical Dermal Filler Results

The results of dermal filler treatment last temporarily. Eventually, the body will absorb the product, so repeat treatment is needed to maintain the effects.

Although individual experiences vary, results with JUVÉDERM last approximately 6 to 12 months. Sculptra and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA results may last up to 2 years.*

Possible Injectable Filler Side Effects

Dr. Klein and our team only use FDA-approved fillers that are proven safe and effective. Side effects are generally rare and temporary. Possible side effects include bleeding, bruising, swelling, tenderness, numbness and redness. In rare cases, Sculptra may cause small bumps to appear under the skin in the treated area.*
