closeup of woman's faceWouldn’t you love to wake up in the morning with your makeup already done? That’s the genius idea behind permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation. Permanent makeup can also help camouflage facial scars, or offer a solution for those with shaky hands or tremors who are unable to apply makeup in the way they’d prefer.*

Micropigmentation services from Aesthetic Dermatology can be customized to meet the personal appearance goals of every person visiting our Bala Cynwyd practice. Whether you’re interested in brow definition, richer lip color or other permanent makeup options, our micropigmentation specialist can help.

How Permanent Makeup Works

Permanent makeup is applied using a needle to deliver pigment below the skin’s surface, just like getting a tattoo. Before your appointment, you’ll discuss your goals with our micropigmentation specialist. The most common areas for permanent makeup are lips, brows and eyeliner areas.

Micropigmentation can also be used for more complex goals like recreating the nipple as part of breast reconstruction, or to aid in the process of scar revision to make an existing scar less noticeable. You can also combine permanent makeup with products like LATISSE® eyelash treatment to further complement your results.*

What to Expect from Micropigmentation

Just like getting a tattoo, micropigmentation can cause some degree of discomfort at the time of treatment. This will vary depending on the amount of permanent makeup being applied, the treatment area and your personal sensitivity level. Topical numbing cream can be applied before your treatment to help you feel more comfortable.*

Recovering from Micropigmentation

You shouldn’t need any downtime after your permanent makeup appointment, but it’s important to follow the appropriate aftercare instructions. You may see some minor swelling or redness for the first several hours after your appointment. It’s important never to pick or scratch at the treated area, as this could result in scarring. You’ll need to avoid wearing makeup in the treated area for at least the first few days.

Typical Permanent Makeup Results

After micropigmentation, the treated area should look as if you’re wearing makeup even when your face is completely clean. Results vary depending on the particular concern you hoped to address.

Possible Permanent Makeup Side Effects

The potential side effects of getting permanent makeup are minimal, similar to those of getting a tattoo. However, any chance of side effects is greatly reduced by visiting an experienced micropigmentation specialist.
