How CoolSculpting Works

You just gotta love cutting-edge research that’s based on some Harvard scientists watching kids eat popsicles and thinking, “Huh, wonder why their cheeks get all dimpled like that.” But we are not joking when we say that’s seriously how CoolSculpting came into being.

CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared non-surgical fat reduction treatment that’s clinically proven to freeze away excess body fat. The cryolipolysis technology behind CoolSculpting uses extreme, controlled cooling to destroy fat cells without disturbing the surrounding tissue. Once frozen, the body gradually eliminates the treated fat cells through natural metabolic processes.*

What to Expect from Your CoolSculpting Treatment

CoolSculpting is performed as an outpatient treatment at our Bala Cynwyd office. You won’t need anesthesia, but we may apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. You can expect your appointment to last 1 to 2 hours, depending on the number and size of the area(s) being treated. You can rest, read or check your email as we work.*

First, we’ll position the appropriate CoolSculpting applicator over the treatment area. The pinchable fat is pulled up and gently held between two cooling panels, which freeze fat cells under the skin. Controlled cold is applied evenly throughout the tissue, freezing the fat cells. The dead cells are naturally filtered out of the body.*

If you have any concerns over the appearance of loose skin, we may suggest combining CoolSculpting with Exilis Ultra skin tightening treatments.

Recovering from Your CoolSculpting Treatment

There’s little to no downtime with CoolSculpting, which makes it a great option for anyone who’s busy—which, let’s be honest, is really everyone these days. You shouldn’t have any post-op discomfort, and you can head back to work and your normal daily routine right after your treatment.*

Typical CoolSculpting Results

It usually takes 2 to 4 months to see a noticeable reduction in fat after CoolSculpting. The removed fat cells won’t come back, so your results should last as long as you maintain your weight through healthy diet and exercise habits.*

You may feel great about your results after just one treatment, or you may prefer to schedule a series of treatments. We’ll work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan to help you meet your appearance goals.*

Possible CoolSculpting Side Effects

CoolSculpting is cleared by the FDA for safety, and side effects are rare and mild. Redness, localized bruising and swelling may occur temporarily and quickly clear up. Some people experience diminished sensation in the treated area for 1 to 8 weeks after treatment.*
